There’s a certain magic to the Greek Islands that keeps pulling us back year after year. Maybe it’s the way the sun melts into the Aegean at sunset, or how every meal feels like it’s been prepared with a little extra love. It could be the pace of life, unhurried and unbothered, entirely focused on enjoying the moment. Whatever it is, we can’t get enough.
Over the years we’ve hopped from island to island, each with its own charm. This summer, Naxos called to us. Known for its sweeping sandy beaches, winding old-town streets, and an atmosphere that is both authentically Greek and blissfully relaxed, it felt like the perfect blend of adventure and downtime.
What we didn’t expect was how untouched it would feel. We wandered along endless stretches of sand without another soul in sight, the waves rolling in as if they were just for us. Inland, the mountains rise dramatically against the horizon, dotted with whitewashed villages where time seems to stand still. Days could be spent exploring these hidden gems, then returning to the quiet luxury of our villa, a place designed for deep breaths, slow mornings, and switching off completely.

The villa itself was even better than we imagined. Spread over three floors, it offered space for everyone to unwind. The lower level felt like its own private retreat, with a bedroom, living area, and private bathroom, perfect for guests or for slipping away with a book. The main floor was bright and open, with a stylish kitchen and living space, another bedroom with its own bathroom, and an additional guest powder room. Large glass doors opened straight out to the pool, outdoor dining area, and sun loungers, making it impossible to resist a morning swim or a long afternoon in the sun.
Upstairs, the top-floor bedroom was pure magic. The adjoining balcony was more like a private patio, complete with a hot tub and sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. It quickly became our favorite spot for sunset, where we could soak, sip a glass of wine, and watch the sky turn shades of gold and pink.
It was exactly what we had been searching for; a villa that gave us the comfort of home with the kind of touches that make a holiday unforgettable.
Although the villa had a fully equipped kitchen and everything we could possibly need to cook, we had no intention of spending our holiday behind a stove. We did not come to the Greek Islands to miss out on the incredible food around us. Breakfast was included in our stay and served each morning in the on-site restaurant, which quickly became one of the highlights of our trip.
Each day began with a warm welcome from the local chef, who prepared an egg-based dish of our choice in the kitchen and brought it to our table. Alongside that came platters of fresh tomato salad, bowls of seasonal fruit, and trays of delicate Greek pastries that were impossible to resist. Freshly squeezed juices appeared without us even asking, and the barista-crafted coffees were the perfect start to slow, sun-filled mornings.
It was the kind of breakfast that set the tone for the day, fresh and unrushed, and full of the flavors of the island. By the time we walked back to our villa, we were already making plans for the beaches, villages, and tavernas we wanted to explore next.
After breakfast we would often grab our bags, hop into our rental car, and set off to explore the island. Naxos is larger than many of its Cycladic neighbors, which means there is always
somewhere new to discover. Winding roads took us through the mountains and into Filoti, a beautiful village surrounded by olive groves where we would pause for a coffee or a stroll through the quiet streets.
The coastline was just as tempting. We found stretches of sand so quiet it felt like we had them all to ourselves.
Some days we swam in crystal-clear turquoise water, other days we walked for what felt like miles along beaches that seemed to go on forever. We often stumbled upon small, secluded coves framed by rugged cliffs, the kind of places you only find by following narrow paths from the roadside.
Each drive felt like part of the adventure. Sometimes we stopped for long lunches in seaside tavernas, other times we brought snacks and stayed out until sunset before returning to the villa. Naxos has a way of making even the simplest road trip feel like a journey worth remembering.
Late afternoons were made for slowing down. We would return to the villa, change into something comfortable, and spend an hour or two by the pool, cocktails in hand and music playing softly in the background. As the light began to fade, we had a choice to make. Some evenings we stayed in, watching the sunset from the hot tub on our balcony as the sky turned shades of gold and pink. Other nights we headed into Naxos Town, where the harbor came alive with people strolling along the waterfront and restaurants spilling out onto cobblestone streets.
The villa was exactly what we had hoped for. It gave us the perfect balance of peace and privacy while still keeping us close to the best of the Greek Islands. We could escape from it all whenever we wanted, yet we never felt far from incredible food, beautiful beaches, and that unmistakable island energy.
